Shopping in Mongkok

While not all the shopping you can do in Mongkok is suitable for the traveller, as you might not want or be allowed to take home a potted plant from Flower Market Road, there is always plenty to see in the shopping in the area.

Specialist Shopping Streets

Many streets specialize in one particular kind of shopping.

Flower Market Road, which is the real name of the road listed on the Map and signposted, is a great place to brows colourful

Sneaker Street by comparison is just the local name for a part of Fa Yuen Street where all the sports shoe shops have gathered.  While Goldfish Street is also an unofficial name, though widely known, for the collection of tropical fish sellers along the northern end of Tung Choi Street .

Hobby Street - Officially Kwong Wa Street this small lane leading onto between Dundas Street is well known as the place to go if you are into radio controlled models, be either airplanes, cars or others. From specialist paints to ready-to-build kits from Tamiya etc they are all available here.  Walk along Dundas street until the medical centre is on your right and just beyond it the turning is on your left. Behind the long row of parked scooters and motorcycles is a collection of all manner of hobby and model shops.  The model shopping extends indoors and upstairs in the Paradise Square mall on the corner of this and Yin Chong Street which also holds more of these shops.

Indoor Malls

Grand Century Place - Just across the road from the Bird Garden this new development includes a hotel, cinema and both local and international brand shops. Being close to the Mong Kok East MTR station it is an easy place to reach.

Mongkok Computer Centre - this very busy mall is packed full of computer shops selling all the latest equipment, both complete computers and also components for those looking to build or upgrade their own machines.

Langham Place - With the 5 star Langham Place Hotel in the same building this mall is also 5 star and includes all types of local and international  brands.

Street Markets

Ladies' Market - One of the worlds go-to market for all types of street fashion the Mongkok Ladies Market on Tung Choi Street opens in the later morning and runs late into the evening. Both the double row of street stalls along the length of the pedestrianized road, and the small shops lining the road, all cater to every need for the shopper and fashionistas. From brand look-alike handbags through to t-shirts and lingerie with novelties and small electronics thrown in the Ladies' Market is a must-see destination for anybody who loves shopping.

Temple Street Night Market - With more focus on snacks, dining and gadgets this night time only market street runs just south of Mongkok but is often visited at the same time. Arrive late for dinner at a street restaurant, see the fortune tellers outside the temple and listen the the Chinese Opera enthusiasts who give performances in the evening.

Food and Dining

Hong Kong people love their food and there are a massive range of choices of dining and snacking available in Mongkok. As one of the main shopping destinations in Hong Kong it is where people go to spend an afternoon or evening shopping and window shopping, and all that makes you hungry so restaurants, bars, street food and all are everywhere.

From the worlds cheapest Michelin starred restaurant, through big name brands, small quirky eateries and lots of lots of street food choices Mongkok has something to satisfy every taste and all budgets, as it is all very reasonably priced, particularly when compared with other parts of Hong Kong.
