Hong Kong Events - July 2027

July 2027 is school holidays and the hottest stretch of the year. HKSAR Establishment Day falls on Thursday 1 July, and the Hong Kong Book Fair takes over the Convention Centre from 14 to 20 July - the biggest annual book event in the region and one of the few Hong Kong happenings that fills the Wan Chai waterfront for a whole week. Ani-Com and Games is expected at the end of the month. For Mong Kok this is a night-time month: the market streets are at their best after dark, the two big malls run their summer programmes, and the air-conditioned museums are the daytime answer.

  • Summer programmes at Langham Place and MOKO - the two district malls run summer activations and pop-up markets every July and August. No 2027 programme or theme has been published, so check the malls directly: langhamplace.com.hk.
  • Summer trading on the market streets - because the days are so hot, the district's high season is effectively after dark. Ladies' Market, Sneaker Street and the food streets all run their best trade in the evening. See the markets seasonal guide.
  • School holidays - the first week of July is when Hong Kong's schools break up, so the malls and the museums get busy with families from mid-month. See the family guide.

🧭 Practical notes for July

  • Weather: the hottest month of the year, with high humidity and afternoon thunderstorms. Plan the markets for after dark and carry water. See the weather guide.
  • Book Fair week: hotels in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay fill for 14-20 July; Mong Kok is insulated from the worst of it and one MTR ride away. See nearby hotels.
  • Ani-Com is not dated: the fair is expected in late July but the 2027 dates have not been posted - check before booking travel around it.
  • Typhoon watch: July and August carry the highest risk of typhoon signals, which shut the markets and the ferries. Keep an eye on the weather forecast.
  • Getting there: see how to get to Mong Kok; the Book Fair is a short MTR ride from the district.
  • Free alternatives: the Goldfish Market and Bird Garden and the free museum galleries in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Confirmed vs expected: HKSAR Establishment Day (1 July) and the Book Fair (14-20 July) carry confirmed 2027 dates. Ani-Com and Games and the malls' summer programmes are annual patterns only - no 2027 dates or themes have been published - so nothing on this page presents them as confirmed.
