Hong Kong Events - October 2027
October 2027 brings the best walking weather of the Hong Kong year, and with it two public holidays in the first eight days: National Day on Friday 1 October and Chung Yeung on Friday 8 October. The month is the business end of the city's arts calendar, with new shows opening at M+ and the Wine & Dine Festival expected at the end of it, and Halloween ends the month in the malls. For Mong Kok it is the month to be outdoors: the humidity finally breaks, the market streets are comfortable all day, and the district becomes the best base in Kowloon for a city-wide programme.
π The big dated events
National Day
π Friday, 1 October 2027
The National Day public holiday, with ceremonies and celebrations across the city and, in most years, a fireworks display over Victoria Harbour in the evening.
Why go: a Friday holiday to open the month. The National Day fireworks are an annual pattern and the 2027 display has not been gazetted - the usual slot is around 20:00, but treat it as expected rather than confirmed.
π Location: Hong Kong-wide; fireworks at Victoria Harbour (expected)
ποΈ Cost: Free
π·οΈ Categories: Holiday, Festival
π More Information: GovHK general holidays 2027
ποΈ Status: Holiday confirmed for Friday 1 October; fireworks EXPECTED - no 2027 gazette yet
Chung Yeung Festival
π Friday, 8 October 2027
The autumn grave-sweeping festival and a public holiday, traditionally a day for hill walks and family outings.
Why go: a second Friday holiday in the first eight days of the month, with the year's clearest walking weather - the district's markets trade their holiday pattern and the hills around the city are popular.
π Location: Hong Kong-wide
ποΈ Cost: Free
π·οΈ Categories: Holiday, Traditional
π More Information: GovHK general holidays 2027
ποΈ Status: Confirmed 2027 general holiday for Friday 8 October
π Expected later in the month
- Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival - the city's big outdoor food and wine event is a late-October fixture on the Central Harbourfront. The 2027 dates have not been published, so treat it as the usual late-October window. Discover Hong Kong
- Halloween in the malls - Langham Place and MOKO have run Halloween displays, themed pop-ups and street promotions in past years, and the district is one of the liveliest places to be on the night itself. No 2027 programme or theme has been published, so check the malls directly rather than planning around a specific display: langhamplace.com.hk.
- Autumn exhibition season - October is the strongest month of the Hong Kong art year after March, with new shows opening at the West Kowloon museums. See the exhibitions section below.
πΌοΈ Exhibitions a short MTR ride away

π§ Practical notes for October
- Weather: the best month of the year - warm, dry and clear, with comfortable evenings. Ideal for walking the markets and for the West Kowloon museums. See the markets seasonal guide.
- Fireworks: if the National Day display goes ahead it draws big crowds to the Kowloon waterfront on 1 October. The 2027 display is not yet gazetted - check Discover Hong Kong.
- Two Friday holidays: 1 October and 8 October. Both make long weekends, and both bring holiday crowds to the district.
- Autumn stock: the best month for new-season clothing and shoes arriving in the market streets. See the Sneaker Street guide.
- Getting there: see how to get to Mong Kok.
- Free alternatives: the Goldfish Market and Bird Garden and the free museum galleries in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Confirmed vs expected: National Day (1 October) and Chung Yeung (8 October) are confirmed public holidays. The National Day fireworks, the Wine & Dine Festival and the malls' Halloween programmes are annual patterns with no published 2027 dates, and are marked as expected here.
